Policing in the UK faces a series of challenges as it seeks to modernise, become more efficient, and make the most of technology and innovation to respond to modern and future demands.  As an integral part of policing, forensic science is facing these challenges too. The Forensic Capability Network (FCN) and Transforming Forensics (TF) Programme is designed to support forensic science to turn this challenge into an opportunity.

Transforming Forensics (TF) is an NPCC/APCC national transformation programme. Our mission is to create advanced and coordinated forensic capabilities, products and services that meet the changing needs of policing and the public. TF powers the Forensic Capability Network (FCN) - policing’s new national, networked approach to forensic science.

The Digital Forensics Scientific Officer roles are external facing, with their main purpose being forming community cohesion to enable delivery to the discipline specific forensic capability roadmaps that are compliant with quality management requirements, ensuring the community recognises the approach, directing the community to work to the capability roadmaps, accelerating continual improvement across all Forces’ Forensic Units in their specialist disciplines and leading national expert networks. The Digital Forensics Scientific Officers will be central to the development of that function by leading a national approach to meeting the continual improvement to existing and emerging forensic capabilities across UK Forensics.
