Contact Officer

We are welcoming applications for the role of Contact Officer with Devon & Cornwall Police based at the following location(s): Plymouth, Crownhill, Police Headquarters, Exeter 

Salary: Grade 4 - Starts at £24,921 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £27,351 per annum 
Please note that the above salary is based on working 37 hours per week. If this role is part-time or you are appointed on a part-time basis your salary will be prorated to reflect this. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon and Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same grade.

Type of working arrangement: Static-Worker - A Static-Worker has little or no opportunity to work remotely as they need to carry out their work at a specific force premises, this could be for a number of reasons including the location of equipment. 
Hours per week: this role is 37 hours per week. However we welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.

Owing to the nature of the role, candidates will need to have reached the age of 18 by the start date.

There is a potential to earn up to £35,321 this includes 20% shift allowance and up to £2500 Weekend working allowance (which is claimable) when you have reached 4 years service.

Salary:                     

  • The commencing salary is £29,905 per annum inclusive of the 20% shift allowance plus a maximum of £2500 weekend working allowance (which is claimable).

We are looking for friendly, patient, broad minded and positive individuals to join our Exeter and Plymouth Contact Resolution Centres, where you will play a critical role in our response to both emergency and non-emergency calls within Devon and Cornwall.

You will handle calls professionally with empathy and patience, listening to vital details and asking the right questions to log information quickly and accurately. You will be part of a wide team with extensive training and ongoing support provided. This role can be challenging at times but is very rewarding.

It’s important to have emotional resilience within this role, as you will at times be answering calls from distressed individuals. No two calls are the same and at times you will handle sensitive information. You will be the first point of contact for our community and will provide help for people when they need it most.  

We are looking for flexible individuals who are open to working shifts, including nights, weekends and some bank holidays. On top of your salary, you will qualify for enhanced shift allowance of up to 20% of your salary, as well as weekend working allowance.

Monday 17th June 2024 – Friday 21st June 2024 (Risk Triage Course) – At Crownhill Police Station, Plymouth

And Thursday 29th August 2024 – Friday 11th October 2024 (Initial Course) – At HQ, Exeter

And Monday 25th November 2024 – Friday 6th December 2024 (Crime & 101 Course) – At HQ, Exeter

OR

Monday 1st July 2024 – Friday 9th August 2024 (Initial Course) – At HQ, Exeter

And Monday 23rd September 2024 – Friday 4th October 2024 (Crime & 101 Course) – At HQ, Exeter

The Initial Course will run from 08.30AM - 16.30PM.  You must be willing and able to travel to Exeter for the duration of the course, regardless of your base station. 

No annual leave will be granted for the duration of the training courses due to essential learning. There will be no exceptions to this.

If you are unable to attend the full courses, you may have to be moved into the suitability pool to await the next available course.

Selection Stage: 

The selection for this role will consist of Interview, Situational Judgement Test (CRC / FCC only), Virtual Assessment (CRC/FCC only).

Applications will be anonymised and then shortlisted by the shortlisting panel. Following the shortlisting you will be notified of the recruitment decision via email along with feedback on your application. 

If successful, you will then be invited to an interview. This will be based on the behaviours outlined within the role profile. The interview process is due to take place week commencing 25 March 2024.

Pre-requisites:
